Artwave 2010

Artwave 2010
Benedict is actually THE perfect flatmate/tour guide and host and on the Sunday took me for a drive around the surrounding areas of Brighton. On our way into Lewes castle we noticed a sign on the wall, saying 'artwave 2010'. Naturally we were led to follow the sign and found ourselves in a beautiful home which was 'open for the public' and set up for displaying various art forms. The most impressive was a photo story with matching fable by Ruth Martin. Ruth's fable was quirky and fun and had accompanying photos she'd take in the garden. (I've emailed her to ask for an extract for the blog ... no reply as yet but hope to have something soon...hello Ruth are you out there?)

It was part of the artwave festival (http://www.artwavefestival.org) which is on until the 12th September and really worth the visit. There are galleries scattered all over the neighbouring towns and villages and exhibits range from photography to sculptures and art forms. There's something really quaint about the way people are happy to open up their homes to wandering guests interested in art. It shows an element of trust. The house we visited was immaculate and the owners were clearly proud of their home, yet humble enough to allow strangers to wander around.
